A City Ahead of its Time

The scene the foreground might be a bit gruesome, but the Author’s eye is attracted to and her mind intrigued by the city behind the laments and prayers.
This crowded and angular city reminds the author of Futurism; of Fritz Lang’s Metroplis* and of a particular cover of Brave New World+.

Interesting painting and I get your connections. It seems midieval but some of the women on the left look more modern, like a painting from the 1920’s or 1930’s. … it is hard to google a picture!
I found it! The painting is ‘A Miracle of Saint Zenobius’ by Domenico Veneziano (painted around1442–8). http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/research/exhibition-catalogues/building-the-picture/place-making/veneziano-miracle-of-saint-zenobius
Google has a very handle search where you can upload an image and it finds similar ones. Clever!
