I Yam What I Yam
A tattoo parlor in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, features window art of Popeye the Sailor Man getting inked with his main squeeze, Olive Oyl, at his side.
If you look closely, you can see that the tattoo on Popeye’s right forearm is Olive Oly in the same pose, beating heart and all. A ship adorns his chest, ‘I yam what I yam’ his stomach and anchor his left forearm, but the Author can’t identify the other markings. Do any Readers have sharper eyes?
The window art is by someone called ‘Puppet’, but the Author was unable to find out more about this artist after some internet searching. The Author hopes that the copyright lawyers at King Features Syndicate don’t uncover this charming, presumably unlicensed, portrayal of Popeye. This post couldn’t possibly lead them to the tattoo parlor, could it?
