Magyar Monday: Stockings as Garish As Malvolio’s.

Perhaps they would not be to Olivia’s liking, but the Author rather fancies the neon green stockings with orange pom-pons. The National Geographic explains that the women’s garb reflect their proximity to Yugoslavia; unfortunately the article doesn’t investigate further. The Author would be most interested to learn more about these outlandish fashions.
I have never been near Yugoslavia. Not near enough to develop bright green stockings with orange pom-pons, anyway. Is it something that happens when one is within a specific number of miles, or is it more a state of mind that transfers itself to ones legs? I suspect the latter.
I, too, suspect it is a state of mind–a certain eccentricity and self-confidence–rather than a mere matter of longitude and latitude. I wouldn’t be surprised to encountered such exuberant stockings in Brooklyn or East London or Portland.
