E.M. Forester’s Army Men

13 May, 2011

E.M. Forester’s toy soldiers can be found at Pollock’s Toy Museum, a fantastic cluttered Victorian house in Fitzrovia with crooked stairs, low ceilings and slanted floorboards.  Reading the description (transcribed below) the Author was struck by two thoughts:

Why did Forester bring his toy soldiers to Cambridge?

Why did he leave them there?

These soldiers belonged to E.M. Forester: they were given to me by his …tor (any suggestions?)*, Professor W.J.H. Sprott, when he was dealing with the contents of Forester’s rooms at King’s College.
