Triumph Commemorated in Felt

22 February, 2011

These relics from 1960’s summer camp life, much like a Boy or Girl Scout badge, commemorate athletic prowess.  The Author’s Mother seems to have excelled at Canoeing and Horse Riding (the former being an important trait in a Wife for the Author’s Father) at her summer camp, Mt. Lake Camp.

The Author, who never attended overnight camp, rather envies her mother for these felt medals of recognition.  Her greatest summer achievements were commemorated by a Sponge, for first place in the 7-Up Cup, a youth Sailing race (which was really the triumph of her Cousin Ricky.  The Author, aged 9, was just along for the ride) and the Junior Pine Tree Award certificate, decorated by a felt tree, for displaying knowledge of woodland life.

The Author rests on these laurels.
