a Comfortable Slumber

Unlike other Medieval Recumbent Effigies, this Lady is posed in a natural sleeping position.  While her Male counterparts in the ‘Medieval & Renaissance’ wing at the V&A lie rigidly on their backs gripping swords, she sleeps comfortably, with her book held lightly in hand, as if she’d dosed off whilst reading (something the Author is quite familiar with).
