Cromwell a Stud? Old Father Autrobus Certainly is Not.

Oh my, Cromwell, don’t you look Fine!

Antrobus

in Father Antrobus’ defence, few would shine in comparison with Cromwell’s chiseled jawline and rugged mullet.

the above images are character details from  The First Clerihews, a delightful collection of biographichal sketches of esteemed Historical Figures written in comical and irreverent verse by E.Clerihew Bentley, accompanied by G.K. Chesterton’s illustrations.

Who knew that G.K. Chesterton, the man of great Wit and Wisdom (and author of The Man Who Was Thursday, a eagerly recommended read), could draw so splendidly!  E. Clerihew Bentley may have contributed some clever verse, but the true charm of this book is in G.K. Chesterton’s illustrations.  Readers may be assured that more Chesterton doodles are on their way.
