LeGrand Associates: Ocularists
1 February, 2013
This Philadelphia family-owned business has crafted artificial eyes since 1953 and, the Author was pleased to learn, still in business. Happy 60th anniversary!
The Author was initially intrigued by the fancy font and her unfamiliarity with the word Ocularists (although familiar with the root, of course), but further research has been enlightening. Dear Reader, did you know the procedure for inserting and removing an artificial eye? LeGrand Associates websites has a useful diagram.

Philadelphia is a special place…and is it okay if this Reader does not look at the diagram?
My gallery was just around the corner from the ocularist for ten years. I saw that sign twice a day but didn’t investigate. Mystery solved by you. Thank you, Diligent Observer.
Unfortunately I looked at the diagram.
I think the diagram is worth a look. Slightly tummy-turning, but really, they’re just simple black and white illustrations. Can you imagine if it was a video tutorial?
Am I alone in thinking that a similar suction cup would be useful for contact wearers?
Anonymous Gallerist, it was in fact coming back from your gallery that I spotted this sign!
